My Thoughts in Short on the Revised F1 Point System
By
With the FIA releasing it’s final version of what will take place in F1 regarding the point system, my initial reaction was ‘Bernie got to them. He managed to push a version of this medal scheme through the FIA”. I don’t like the idea of who has the most wins will win the drivers championship, not one bit. The proposal from FOTA of a revised point system was much more to my liking, but probably because I am comfortable with points being awarded as it has been for a long time.
That said, I backed off a little on my reaction when I read the entire document and clearly saw that the FIA accepted the majority of what FOTA wanted. Wins wins is a controversial point and when the FIA finalized their plan I’m sure they were acknowledging amongst themselves how controversial it would be. At the same time they were probably saying that FOTA has gotten most of what they wanted so they can live with this. There would be a reaction to it and swiftly, but mostly from a political standpoint rather than a harsh or hostile reaction. When I was young and asked my parents to let me do something, often they did let me with a stipulation or two. Obviously I didn’t like the stipulation, but kept my mouth as shut as I could knowing that if I argued they most likely would refuse the whole thing. That’s a bit simplified I know, but maybe somewhat of the same position FOTA is in.
