BMW Confirms Commitment to F1

By BMWF1guy

Statement from Dr. Klaus Draeger, member of the BMW AG Board of Management on Honda withdrawal from Formula One .

“It is with regret that we learnt of Honda’s decision. It has no bearing on BMW’s involvement in Formula One.

Our F1 involvement is an integral part of the company strategy. There is no better platform than Formula One for demonstrating our brand values. BMW, moreover, makes targeted use of the Formula One project as a technology accelerator for series production.

With the BMW Sauber F1 Team, we have from the start focused on high efficiency and have achieved our successes with a compact and powerful team. The cost-benefit ratio is commensurately positive. The measures now proposed by FOTA for significant cost cuts starting as early as season 2009 are a further important contribution.”

This statement certainly signifies BMW’s future involvement in F1 wouldn’t you say? From day one when BMW entered F1 as a team owner they have continuously stated that a compact and efficient team is the best financial strategy. It is a strategy that unfortunately Honda chose not to follow, weather a more compact and efficient team would help them out now considering their mounting losses in North America is another story, but I believe it would have had some affect.

well, unlike Honda, BMW has some results to show for the money they spent. But in today’s world things can turn around very quickly, winter is very long …

but do want to believe BMW are here to stay. I do not know why but I do not have the same feeling about Toyota and Renault

F1Wolfs last blog post..So, Honda is out of Formula 1, what’s next ?

as i said earlier, there r chances that other team may withdraw like toyota nd toro roso.

i read about the decline in Toyota profits presently . their losses are nearly equal to that of honda.so we may expect them to withdraw from the race..

what about button? anu idea? he is unemployed :)

kaushals last blog post..Honda quit F1,reactions of bloggers

these are only speculations :)

Yes Kaushal, there are the chances of this happening and we have no idea of what is going on behind the scenes. I do believe however that BMW does have a strong commitment to F1, the money and the interest. I’m not worried about them pulling out.

I am concerned about Toro Rosso. This is a big issue.

It’s a scary thought to think of F1 without Renault and when I scan the news I look for their name in any story I see.

F1 would be in serious trouble if either Toyota or Renault join Honda.

I have to go take my feel better pills now :)

After thinking about all this for a while I think that the best thing that can happen to F1 is more manufacturers to go and some proper racing people picking up the bits and pieces after them …

don’t take me worng, manufactuers are good for F1, but not when they rule the game and run majority of the teams

10-15 years back Ferrari were the only proper manufacturer team on the grid. look back to the Senna days for example …

what happened when Honda left in 90s ? nothing, McLaren found different engine supplier and the show went on. what happened when Renault left in 90s ? nothing, Williams found new engine supplier and the show went on.
