BMW Sauber Hold on to Kubica and Heidfeld for 2009
By
It’s good news for Nick Heidfeld for 2009. BMW Sauber have decided to keep both Nick and Robert Kubica for 2009 so now they can relax and focus on the last 3 races of the season.
Mario Theissen:
“We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver,”
“We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team’s fourth year.”
Of course there has been so much speculation surrounding the future of Nick Heidfeld and would he be kept on at BMW Sauber. I had hoped he would be kept on and not only because I like him as a driver, but I never found myself jumping on the ‘dump Heidfeld’ bandwagon. I thought and still do think he’s a pretty good driver that had a bump in the road this season, but looking at his overall performance this season, it’s not as bad as it was made out to be. Nick has been on the podium, has finished every race this season, has outperformed or equaled Kubica of late, and seems to have rid himself of his qualifying issues that plagued his middle season.
If I look at the other teams, I see Ferrari have 2 very good drivers, to some extent McLaren have 2 solid drivers, and the only other team I can think of that has2 good drivers is BMW Sauber.
Ferrari has shown confidence in Kimi Raikkonen by sewing him up until 2010 and his year has been dismal. It goes to show that sometimes teams can overlook a poor season and look at the driver instead.
One more option for Fernando Alonso gone. It looks more and more like Alonso at Renault in 2010.

The pickings are getting slim. Alonso really has no where to go next season now so Renault is his best bet I think.
Probably a spot at Renault and it could be the best spot left. I just don’t see Piquet at Renault next season.

Toro Rosso might have a good seat. I like the team and how they are getting better all the time.
Heidfeld should be at BMW. He lives for that team.
